Routine maintenance

How to build a bicycle maintenance schedule

There is no single service calendar for every bicycle. Mileage, weather, storage, load, component design, and riding conditions can change what needs attention and when.

01

Before each ride

Check tire condition and pressure, wheel security, brake function, steering, saddle and pedal security, and mounted accessories. Investigate any new movement, noise, rubbing, or loss of braking before riding.

02

After dirty or wet rides

Clean the bicycle using methods approved for its components, dry it, inspect for damage, and service the drivetrain as instructed. Do not direct high-pressure water at bearings, seals, or electrical parts.

03

At regular condition checks

Inspect brake-pad and tire wear, chain wear, cables or hoses, fasteners, bearings, wheels, and frame or fork condition. Record the date, mileage if known, and work performed so changes are easier to spot.

04

Use manuals and professional service

Suspension, hydraulic brakes, e-bike systems, torque-critical parts, and internal hubs may have model-specific procedures. Follow their manuals and use a qualified mechanic for work outside your tools or experience.

This guide is general information. Confirm dimensions and installation requirements with your bicycle or component manufacturer before purchasing.
