Tires and wheels
Check tire pressure against the permitted range for the tire, rim, and bicycle. Look for cuts, bulges, embedded debris, loose spokes, damaged rims, and wheel fasteners or thru-axles that are not secured correctly.
Brakes
Test each brake separately before moving. Levers should operate predictably and braking surfaces should be clean and correctly aligned. Do not ride if a lever reaches the handlebar or braking feels weak or inconsistent.
Steering and contact points
Confirm that the handlebar, stem, saddle, seatpost, cranks, and pedals feel secure. Turn the bar and check for binding, looseness, or cable interference.
Accessories and first meters
Check lights, racks, bags, bottles, fenders, kickstand, and cargo. Start slowly in a safe area and listen for rubbing, clicking, or movement that was not present before.
