Four packages you may encounter.

Front-wheel kit

The motor is in the front wheel.

Package format

Motor wheel, controller, display or control unit, sensors, and wiring; contents vary.

Key distinction

Fork suitability, axle and dropout dimensions, wheel and brake fit.

Rear-wheel kit

The motor is in the rear wheel.

Package format

Motor wheel and controls, with gearing and mounting accessories depending on the package.

Key distinction

Rear spacing, cassette/freewheel, brake clearance, and torque-arm mounting.

Mid-drive kit

The motor mounts around the bottom bracket and drives the chain.

Package format

Motor, often with integrated controller; crank arms, chainring, speed sensor, harness, and controls may be included.

Key distinction

Bottom-bracket dimensions, frame clearance, chainline, and drivetrain suitability.

Controller + display bundle

Replacement electronics for an existing compatible system.

Package format

A controller and its matched display; sometimes additional controls.

Key distinction

Does not supply the motor wheel or battery unless explicitly stated.

What is inside a hub-motor kit?

A shopping checklist, not a promised packing list. Confirm every inclusion for the exact model and selected option.

Motor & wheel

Provides electric drive. A hub kit may arrive laced into a rim; a bare motor does not.

Check wheel assembly and axle fit.

Motor controller

Regulates electrical power to the motor using signals from the rider controls.

Check voltage, current limits, and protocol.

Display & control pad

Shows supported ride information and lets the rider select settings.

Check exact controller compatibility.

Pedal-assist sensor (PAS)

Detects pedaling for a supported assistance system.

Check sensor type and crank-side mounting.

Throttle

A thumb or twist control requests motor drive on systems that support it.

Check signal and operating-mode support.

Brake-cutoff controls

Levers or separate sensors signal the motor controller when braking.

Check the bicycle’s brake system.

Wiring harness

Carries power or control signals between supported parts.

Check connector pinouts and cable reach.

Torque arms

Restrain hub-motor axle rotation through a suitable mounting arrangement.

Check axle shape and frame or fork fit.

Mounts & axle hardware

Secure the motor and electronics using specified nuts, washers, and brackets.

Check the model’s installation drawing.

Controller bag or enclosure

Holds external electronics; not every kit supplies one.

Check size, attachment, and cooling.

Rear sprockets

A rear kit may include gearing, or require compatible gearing separately.

Confirm cassette versus threaded freewheel.

Instructions & tools

A model-specific manual should identify installation and setup requirements.

Confirm which tools are supplied.

Read the inclusions carefully

“Kit” does not always mean everything.

Battery & charger

A battery is needed to power the system, but may be excluded from the package. Charging equipment must match the exact battery. OakSpark has not confirmed a battery or charger offering.

Tire, tube & rim tape

A photograph of a wheel does not settle whether these consumables are supplied. Ask for an itemized list and confirm rim and tire dimensions.

Gearing & brake hardware

Confirm whether rear sprockets, brake rotor, and any required adapters are supplied or must be sourced separately.

Labor & specialist tools

Fitting, inspection, and setup are separate considerations. Mid-drive packages may require crank and bottom-bracket tools.

None of these values are confirmed OakSpark specifications. We will publish model-specific information after supplier confirmation.

Common kit questions.

Can I mix any display with any controller?

No. As one specific example, E-Bike Solution identifies its listed SW900/YF bundle as protocol No. 2 and excludes KT controllers. Even a familiar display name is not enough: confirm the exact version and controller pairing. See that bundle’s compatibility notes.

Does a kit’s wattage tell me its range?

No. Ask for the battery capacity and the conditions used for any range estimate, including rider load, terrain, speed, and assistance level.

Can I order one of these kit types from OakSpark?

Not yet. This guide explains the options while supplier discussions continue. No model, price, packing list, or delivery date is confirmed.
